Commissioner Powers was elected to the Board in November 2016 and 2020.

The number #1 reason Commissioner Powers ran for office is because he wanted to ensure that tax dollars were spent properly and he wanted to work with the community to give the best possible service for the most reasonable cost.

Moving to the Keys:

Danny Powers was born and raised in a suburb south of Chicago.  He moved to the Keys in 1980 with his wife, and worked as a marine mechanic at Ocean Reef Club.  While working there, Danny volunteered at the Ocean Reef Volunteer Fire Department.  That is when he decided to continue on to get his state certifications.  Danny attended Miami Dade College taking the EMT/Paramedic courses and graduated in 1988.  He began working for Monroe County EMS in 1990 and retired after 24 years of service.  In 1999, he graduated as a firefighter from the Division of State Fire Marshalls.

Community Activities:

Danny was a volunteer with the Key Largo Ambulance Corporation for six years. While his children were growing up, he volunteered at both Key Largo School and Coral Shores High School. Danny was a volunteer for Odyssey of the Mind as a coach for twelve years and then became the Regional Director for the Island Region for Monroe County Schools. He is also an active volunteer for Silver Shores Community for the past thirty-five years.

Now Danny is spending his time rebuilding a 1950 Chevy Bel Air, and his two grown children, who live in Miami, are also keeping him busy remodeling their homes.
