KEY LARGO Volunteer Fire Rescue Department
 |
The Mission of the Key Largo
Volunteer Fire Rescue Department is to provide the highest
level of fire and rescue services possible through community
involvement, education, and prevention. Their team of
friendly and dedicated professionals will strive for
excellence to serve our community in paradise.
|
The
KLFR&EMS District is proud to contract the fire and rescue services
from the Key Largo Volunteer Fire Rescue Department, which is now 52
years old. The department officially began providing their services
to rural Key Largo in 1955 shortly after the Tavernier Fire
Department gave concerned citizens in Key Largo an older fire truck
to fight fires in the community.
The
commitment and dedication of the Key Largo volunteers throughout the
history of the Volunteer Fire Rescue Department may be observed with
the major projects they have undertaken over the years to improve
the department and it’s services to provide outstanding support to
the community; including:
Building
the first fire station at MM 99, constructing the North Station at
MM 106
from an
old steel hanger salvaged from Ocean Reef, members became certified
as rescue divers for water emergencies and recoveries, participating
in training and conducting fundraising to help provide for the
equipment and supplies the department has needed.
The KLVFRD Vehicle Extrication Team is
nationally-recognized for their excellence and proficiency in
vehicle accident extrication.
Key
Largo Volunteer Fire Rescue Department operations and administration
is overseen by the Corporate Board of Directors and the Fire Chief.
